Vocations
"Why don't you give yourself to God once and for all, ...really, ...now!" -St. Josemaria Escriva
Vocations are on the rise in this archdiocese! Our college seminary is full of strong, orthodox, joyful young men who are eager to give their lives the Lord. Many young men and women are turning to religious and consecrated life, happily making vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, out of love for the One who was poor, chaste and obedient for our sake. The truth and meaning of marriage as a noble and holy calling is being rediscovered and lived by countless couples. At our parish we teach our children to pray to know God's will for their life.
Vocations from Our Parish
Paul Shovelain, 2001 Graduate of the Academy of Saints Peter and Paul
Year in Seminary: Junior
Home Parish: St. Michael - St. Michael, MN
About me:
I am from Saint Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael, MN, and the fourth of five children to Jim and Marie Shovelain. I have 3 nieces and a nephew. My work experiences include farming with my brother-in-law, working retail for Bose, and landscaping for Midwest Landscapes. I enjoy playing baseball and football.
I grew up in a very prayerful family. I am a morning person so I always got up early to help my mom make my dad’s lunch when I was little. One day, when I was about three years old, my mom was making a sandwich for my dad and gave me a piece of cheese. I said “The body of Christ.” Then she asked me if I was Father Paul. I said, “No, I’m Jesus!” I shocked myself that morning! Little did I realize I was right! Not only me, but you all are called to be Jesus to the world. We are called to live as He did and spread his love. The best way that I see myself being Christ to others is by being a priest. I think God is calling me towards priesthood so that He may work through me to bring the sacraments to others. That must be one of the greatest joys of being a priest.
"I think God may be calling me to priesthood or religious life. Where do I go from here?"
